Supplies Needed
Paint Shop Pro 7 or 8 here
This tutorial was written as an assignment in the Brat Pack, a PSP group I am in. It’s fairly easy but you do need to have a basic knowledge tools and using layers in PSP. It was written sing PSP8 but I’m sure it can be done in earlier versions.
OK Lets get started.
Open the carousel tube in PSP. Shift D and close the original. Go to Image/resize and type in 30% and under resizing using….make sure it says bicubic. Then go to Image/canvas size and make the canvas 300x300. This will give you plenty of room to work with.
Click on your selection tool…rectangle, antialias checked, feather 0 and select a small area of your tube…I chose the yellow portion of the wing. Go to Edit/Copy, Edit paste as new image. Click on Effects/ Image effects/ Seamless tiling (in PSP 7 its located under Selections). Now you have your pattern for the text. Make it your back ground and foreground pattern. Now back to your tube.
Go to your layer palette, right click raster 1 and choose duplicate. Click on the eye (glasses in PSP 7) to hide the copy then click on raster 1 to select it. Go to Effects/Plugins/Filter Factory A and choose Kaleidoscope II using the setting below.
Not exactly the same as the one I used on yours Lady Barbara but I forgot the settings lol. Go to your layer palette and using the slider, lower the opacity of this layer to about 60%. Go to Effects/3D/Drop Shadow and use the settings below.
Edit/Repeat Drop Shadow.
Go to your layer palette and on the copy of raster 1 click on the eye (glasses in PSP7) to unhide the layer. Then click on it to select it. Back to your image, Move the carousel up a little bit and add the following drop shadow.
Add the same drop shadow again but change the blur to 10.
Time to add your text.
Add a new raster layer. Click on your text tool and choose the text you want to use. I used Adorable which is included in the zip file. Settings for the text I used are as follows: Floating, Adorable, size 28, stroke width 1, antialias checked, bold. Your pattern should still be in the foreground and background fields. Click on your canvas and type out your text. Move it to where you want it and go to selections/ select none. Add the same drop shadow but change the blur to 1.
Once you have everything looking the way you want it to go to Layers/merge/merge visible. Then click on your crop tool and crop it just around your image. Then go to layers/merge/merge all flatten. You can stop here if you want and save it as a jpg image or you can go on to add sparkles.
Add animated sparkles
Go to your layer palette and right click raster 1. Choose promote background to layer. Right click it again and duplicate. Do this one more time so you have a total of 3 layers. Hide the top 2 layers and click on the bottom one to select it. Click on your tube tool and look for your sparkle. (If you don’t have one I’ve included one in the zip. To add it to your tubes open it in PSP, go to file/export/picture tube, name it sparkle and click ok) Change the scale to about 35 or whatever you think looks best. Now click a few times over your image. On your layer palette unhide the next layer up, click it to select it, and add some sparkles on this layer. Do the same on your last layer. All layers should be open but if not then click the eyes of any hidden layer (glasses in PSP7) and save this as a psp file.
Open Animation Shop and open your image in it. Go to edit/select all then go to image/ frame properties and change the 10 to a 15. Go to View/Animation and watch it sparkle! Save it as a .gif file and you are done!
